TO BE A LEADER OR JUST A BOSS

This blog is inspired by the facebook posts from Best Quotes (The photos are obviously from Best Quotes). My friend and colleague Rommel Alvarez was so kind to have shared the posts on my timeline.

Here is what I thought about a LEADER and a BOSS....

A BOSS CHOKES HIS SUBORDINATES
A boss may think that he can do whatever he wants with his subordinates. You can't even question him because he thinks you are undermining his orders. He does not care about his employees. His heart belongs to his ego, his position and his ambition.

A LEADER NURTURES HIS SUBORDINATES

A leader on the other hand, is the one who sees potentials and wholeheartedly exerts effort to nourish whatever it is he sees among his employees. He sends them to training, refers them to people who could help them improve and prosper.

A BOSS IS QUICK TO JUDGE
A boss may conclude that you are a good-for-nothing once you fail your task. He tends to burst into anger, humiliate you and eventually fire you.

A LEADER GIVES SECOND CHANCES

A leader may express his disappointments with you failing your task but a good leader presents a contingency plan or if not he asks you to think of a better way to accomplish the tasks at hand. He understands that a successful man is not necessarily he who is perfect. The most successful men are those who were given second chances.

A BOSS'S ORDER CANNOT BE QUESTIONED
A boss is most of the time at the height of his emotions. When he is at this state all his commands must be followed. Or, if not, brace yourselves for a very lengthy reprimand.

A LEADER ALWAYS ASKS

A leader is calm. When a problem occurs, he asks first before reacting. He even tends to give resolutions to the crisis at hand and not worsen it by degrading his subordinates. He believes that everything can be straightened out with a cool head.

A BOSS TAKES ALL THE CREDIT
A boss talks about how he successfully dragged the company up from bankruptcy. He always has this heroic anecdotes of how he single-handedly fought the monsters that tried to put the company down.He loves to talk about all the efforts he exerted, all the sacrifices he made. He often says, "I MADE IT!" (Funny he works in a company.)

A LEADER IMMORTALIZES TEAM EFFORT

A leader takes pride on how the company emerges from bankruptcy because of how good his subordinates are.He never forgets to show his appreciation and gratitude. He often says, "WE MADE IT. I WOULDN'T BE WHERE I AM NOW WITHOUT YOU."

A BOSS POINTS YOU TO UNCERTAIN REALMS
A boss sends you to confirm his doubts about what comes ahead. He treats you like a scout in battle, "Go, I need to know if it's safe. Go and cover me."

A LEADER GUIDES YOU TO THE UNCERTAIN

A leader walks ahead of you to confirm his doubts about what comes ahead. "Let's go and find out if it is safe for everyone to engage. Stay behind me. I'll tell you when it is safe."

A BOSS IS IDEALISTIC
A boss excessively if not vaguely explains a task at hand. He talks a lot to mask his inability to do the task himself. He beats around the bush without giving the clear instructions because of the same reason.

A LEADER IS PRACTICAL

A leader talks less and shows how a task maybe accomplished. He models to ascertain that his propositions are not mere experiments but something well thought off because they are achievable.

A BOSS THREATENS
A boss only wants you to accomplish your task because if not, you must be ready to face the consequences. He does not care as to what circumstances may have affected your inability to comply.

A LEADER OFFERS ASSISTANCE

A leader extends a hand when he knows the slopes are steep. He helps you accomplish your task because for him your success is the company's success as well.
