HOW TO DRAFT A MINI-FRONT BODICE PATTERN


MINI-FRONT BODICE PATTERN

This is a collaborative activity for the purpose of showing the students how to use and maneuver the patterns. Using smaller versions make it easier to see the bigger picture.

1. Draw construction line by tracing the outer edge of 
    the L-square and mark the corner A.
2. From A, measure 1½ inches downward. Label it B.
3. From A, measure 3 inches downward. Label it C.
4. From A, downwards measure 3¾ (supposed 1/2 of the 
    armhole circumference)Label it D.
5. From A, measure the 4¼ (supposed bust height)
    Label it E.
6. From A, measure 5 inches (the supposed front bodice 
    length). Label it F.
7. Square out points B, C, D, E, and F.
8. From A, measure 1 inch to the right. Label it G.
9. Shape the front neckline from point G to B with a 
   French curve.
10. From A, measure 1/2 of the shoulder 
      measurementLabel it H.
11. Connect H and F with a straight line thus forming a 
      swayed line.
12.From H, measure 1/4 inch down on the swayed line. 
    Label it I.
13.Connect points I and G with a straight line.
14.From C, measure ½  of the chest width or shoulder 
    width to the right. Label if J.
15. From D, measure ¼ of the bust circumference plus 
     1/4   inch for allowance. Label it K.
16. Shape front armhole from points I, J and K with a 
     French curve.
17. From F, measure ¼ of the waist circumference plus 1/2 inch for the front dart. 
     Label it L.
18. Connect points L to K with a straight line.
19. From E, measure ½ of the bust distance. Label it M.
20. Square down point M to line FL.
21. Mark the intersection of points M and F as N.
22. From N, measure 1/4 inch towards point F. Label it O.
23. From N, measure 1/4 inch towards L. Label it P.
24. Connect points O and M with a straight line.
25. Connect points P and M with a straight line.
26. From L, measure 1/4 inch upward on line L. Label it Q.
27.Connect point Q  to point N with a slight curve.
